Andrew Davies has called on his team-mates to avoid a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy influence hangover this weekend when they take on Plymouth Argyle. City lost the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern Area semi-final to Oldham Athletic on Tuesday evening, ending the possibility for a trip to Wembley for Phil Parkinson’s men this season.
There is no time for the Bantams – who were once involved in EPL betting don’t forget – to feel sorry for themselves though as they get ready to take on bottom of the table Plymouth Argyle this weekend. Only three points separate the duo, so this is a massive match in City’s season and Davies is determined to ensure that he and his team respond to the Oldham defeat in the best possible way.
He said: “I don’t think anyone would be down anyway but this being such a big game means we can’t dwell on losing to Oldham. Our performances have been good recently so out morale won’t be affected by what happened on Tuesday night. I would like to think everyone took the positives out of it. There is a feeling among the lads that things are turning round. No-one is falling out and saying things like, ‘You didn’t do this or that’. It shows everyone is together.”
“I think the fans can also see how we are working for each other. They were brilliant at Oldham and their support will be very important this weekend. Since I came to the club, they have been great. I have had a few clubs and they are definitely one of the best I have witnessed.”
Davies will hope he can give the City fans something to cheer about this weekend of course. The game with Plymouth gets underway at 3pm on Saturday afternoon. If the Bantams can win this one, they can go into the Christmas period on a positive note. Transfer betting then suggests they might do some business in January too. For now though, it is all about Saturday’s massive game.
