Phil Parkinson on the Brentford FA Cup draw

The City boss said: “I thought there wasn’t much in the first half and their goal was perhaps a bit harsh on us. We were excellent in the second half, however, even before the subs came on. Obviously the subs helped us though, they gave us a lift and gave us that little bit extra quality we needed on a difficult surface. After we scored, we had chances to win it as well. James (Hanson) and Gary (Jones) went close with chances and Nahki’s probably had an even better one when he’s hit the post.”

“Brentford are a good team, they’ll be up there at the top end of League One come the end of this season. I was confident coming into the game, however, that we would give a good account of ourselves. I asked the lads to back up my faith and confidence in this team with a performance and I felt they did that tonight.”

“Me and Steve (Parkin) always have a meeting about the game beforehand to discuss what we might look to do in certain situations. We felt after sixty minutes if we were not winning, we were going to go for it. If we were winning at that stage, we’d probably have gone down a different line. Given that we were losing at that stage, however, we had to have a go. We took a bit of a gamble by bringing all three on, but I felt all three made a big contribution when they came on.”
