Former Macclesfield midfielder Matt Hamshaw on trial at Bradford City

According to various reports, former Macclesfield Town midfielder Matt Hamshaw is on a weeks trial at valley Parade. The 30-year-old spent the last two years with Silkmen but was released at the end of the season following their relegation to the Blue Square Bet Premier.

Rotherham born Hamshaw came through the ranks at Sheffield Wednesday (though I believe he may have started out with neighbours Sheffield United). An England international at schoolboy level (and subsequently for the Under-18s too) alongside the likes of Jermain Defoe and Jay Bothroyd, Matt’s professional debut for The Owls came in August 2000 away at Grimsby Town at the age of 18 - coincidentally Wednesday were managed by Paul Jewell at the time.

After leaving Hillsborough Matt and went to have spells at Stockport County, Mansfield Town & Notts County before move to Macclefield in 2010. I can’t say I know that much about him, but this goal he scored in Wednesday’s 4-0 win against Watford back in December 2001 is definitely worth watching. Click here to view
