Former Bantam Jon Worthington has signed for Blue Square Bet Premier Mansfield Town on a one-year contract. The 28-year-old midfielder was released from Valley Parade by Peter Jackson last month, following the expiry of his short-term contract.
The ex-Huddersfield Town man was signed from League One side Oldham Athletic on a month’s emergency loan back in January, but within days his contract was cancelled by Oldham and Peter Taylor gave him a contract to stay with City until the end of the season. He went on to play for the Bantams 16 times and I’m sure many people expected Jackson to bring him back for next season.
Jon told www.mansfieldtown.net: “I’m delighted to have signed. I came and met the manager and was pleased to hear about his ambitions for the club. As a midfielder, I can get box to box or act as the ‘sitting player.’ I like to get ‘a foot in’ and work hard for the team and be an important cog in the side.”
